Modern heating technologies not only save costs, but also make a valuable contribution to climate protection. Numerous subsidy programmes support homeowners in renewing or optimising their heating systems. But what requirements must be met in order to benefit from these subsidy programmes?
Funding opportunities: KfW and BAFA at a glance
The KfW and the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) offer different subsidies for the replacement and optimisation of heating systems. While the KfW grants low-interest loans and subsidies for energy-efficient refurbishments, the BAFA concentrates on subsidies for renewable energies. Important: The application for funding must always be submitted before the measures begin.
Promotion for renewable energies
BAFA only subsidises heating systems that are based on renewable energies. Homeowners who switch from an oil heating system to a heat pump or biomass system, for example, can expect to receive up to 45 % in funding. For gas hybrid heating systems that are combined with renewable energies, the subsidy is up to 40 %.
KfW funding for energy-efficient heating systems
KfW supports homeowners in installing modern gas heating systems and combining them with renewable energies. However, since 2020, pure oil or gas condensing heating systems are no longer eligible for funding unless they are integrated as part of an efficiency house concept. Optimisation measures such as the replacement of heating pumps or the installation of pre-settable thermostatic valves are also subsidised.
Additional support programmes at state level
In addition to the federal programmes, many federal states and local authorities offer supplementary funding opportunities. These can be particularly attractive if the federal funding programmes do not suit the individual heating situation.
When is heating modernisation worthwhile?
A heating system that is more than 15 years old often consumes more energy and causes higher costs. Replacing it with a modern system not only reduces ancillary costs, but also increases the value of the property. An experienced professional estate agent can help you assess the impact of modernising your heating system on the sale value of your home.
Important information for homeowners
To benefit from the funding, you should check the specific requirements of the programmes in advance. An early application and support from experts will help to ensure that the process runs smoothly.
